Tips for getting the most from LexMT

What LexMT can do

Court-Ready Analysis

Ask about liability, procedure, or legal standing and receive structured analysis with inline statute and judgment citations. The depth of a senior associate's memo.

"My client was dismissed two weeks after raising a formal grievance. Does this give rise to a constructive dismissal claim, and what compensation is available?"

Full Contracts Drafted

Not a skeleton. A complete, jurisdiction-specific draft. Employment contracts, NDAs, shareholder agreements, board resolutions, lease agreements, and more.

"Draft a shareholders' agreement for a Malta JV with two 50/50 parties, deadlock mechanism, drag-along and tag-along rights under Cap. 386."

Legal Opinions

Ask LexMT to structure a formal legal opinion covering applicable law, analysis, and conclusion. Useful for client advice, due diligence, or regulatory assessment.

"My client is lending €2M secured on a Valletta property. Draft a legal opinion on the enforceability of the hypothec and priority of our charge."

Caselaw-Supported Research

Every answer draws from 77,500+ Malta judgments and 28,000+ CJEU decisions, with direct links to source documents. Search by topic, principle, or party name.

"How have Maltese courts treated non-compete clauses where the employer failed to pay the agreed consideration?"

Tips for better results

Be specific

"What notice period is required for redundancy under Maltese employment law?" works better than "notice period".

Attach documents

Upload a contract, lease, or court filing and ask LexMT to analyse it against applicable law.

Use voice memos

Tap the microphone icon and dictate your question. Useful when you're on the move.

Switch research modes

Use the mode pills (Malta / EU / Combined / Research) to control which corpus LexMT searches. For dedicated case-law browsing, use the Caselaw Search page instead.

Cross-check citations

Every answer includes the source. Always verify directly on legislation.mt or eCourts before relying on it.

Ask in English or Maltese

LexMT handles both languages. The majority of Maltese court judgments are written in Maltese. The model handles Maltese natively and will extract relevant passages regardless of language.

Frequently asked questions

What legislation does LexMT cover?
The full Malta statute book: 1,100+ Acts (CAPs) and 3,800+ Subsidiary Legislation instruments, plus 80,000+ court judgments spanning all Maltese courts, and 28,000+ CJEU judgments. The corpus updates automatically as new legislation and judgments are published.
Is LexMT a substitute for a lawyer?
No. LexMT provides legal and regulatory information only. It does not provide advice. Every answer should be verified against primary sources, and you should consult a qualified professional for any matter with legal consequences.
How current is the legislation?
Legislation is indexed from legislation.mt and updated within 24 hours of publication. Court judgments are indexed as they become available on eCourts.
Is my data private?
Yes. Uploaded documents are processed in memory only and never written to disk. Query history is stored on our servers for the duration of your subscription and can be deleted at any time. Your data is never used to train AI models. We are GDPR compliant and classified as Limited Risk under the EU AI Act.
Can I try LexMT before subscribing?
Yes. You get 10 free credits with no credit card required. Subscriptions start at €99 per month.
What languages can I use?
English and Maltese. You can mix languages in a single session. The model natively handles both.
Can I export answers?
Yes. Subscribers can export any answer as PDF, DOCX, or XLSX using the export button below the response. The export includes the answer text and all cited sources with links.
Why do you ask for my professional sector during sign-up?
LexMT uses your sector to personalise every aspect of your experience. Not just how results are displayed, but how the search itself works. A lawyer gets a higher proportion of court judgments and case-law-heavy answers, with citations in proper legal format. A tax advisor gets more legislation and treaty references, with Cap. 123 (Income Tax Act), VAT Act, and double taxation agreements prioritised. A compliance officer gets regulatory obligations front and centre: MiCA, MiFID, AML/CFT, FIAU guidance, with EU regulations given extra weight. An architect or planner gets Planning Authority policies, ODZ rules, and development control legislation surfaced first. Your sector setting also helps the AI correctly expand ambiguous acronyms. For example, 'PE' means Permanent Establishment to a tax advisor, but Planning Authority decisions to an architect.
What are the research modes and how do I choose?
The four mode pills at the top of the dashboard (🇲🇹 Malta, 🇪🇺 EU, 🌐 Combined, 🧠 Research) control which corpus LexMT searches. Malta mode uses Malta legislation + Malta judgments. EU mode uses EU directives, regulations + Court of Justice rulings. Combined searches everything. Research uses AI general knowledge only with no corpus lookup. See the mode guide further up this page.
What is the Caselaw Search page?
The Caselaw Search page (/cases) is a dedicated judgment browser. It lets you search 80,000+ Malta court judgments and 28,000+ CJEU decisions with court filters, year range, party name search, and judge/outcome filters. Each result shows the case parties, reference number, court, date, and an AI-generated summary. Click 'View PDF' to go directly to the eCourts or EUR-Lex source. Subscribers can bookmark cases, use voice search, and filter by judge or outcome.
How many court judgments are included?
Over 77,500 judgment PDFs from eCourts, covering the Civil Court (First Hall), Court of Appeal, Court of Magistrates, Court of Commerce, Constitutional Court, Small Claims Tribunal, and more, spanning 30+ years. For EU case law: 28,000+ judgments split between the Court of Justice (preliminary rulings, direct actions, appeals) and the General Court (competition, state aid, IP, trade remedies).
Does LexMT include MFSA circulars and FIAU guidance notes?
Yes, and this is unique to LexMT. Over 550 regulatory guidance documents are indexed alongside legislation and case law, including: FIAU Implementing Procedures (Part I and all Part II sector-specific versions covering Crypto-Assets, CSPs, Accountants, Remote Gaming, and Land-Based Casinos), FIAU General Guidance Notes (transaction monitoring, source of wealth, MLRO obligations, business risk assessment, sanctions guidance, enforcement factsheets), FIAU Sectorial Guidance (lawyers, notaries, real estate, investment services, CSPs, travel rule, payment accounts), and MFSA circulars across all supervised sectors (Crypto-Assets / MiCA, AML/CFT, Capital Markets, FinTech, Banking, Conduct of Business, Financial Institutions, Investment Services, Insurance). For compliance officers and MLROs, this means getting answers that reflect both the legislation and the regulator's own interpretation of it, in the same response.
Can I bookmark and revisit cases?
Yes. Subscribers can star any judgment on the Caselaw Search page. Bookmarks are saved to your account and accessible from the Saved Cases page (/saved) at any time. Each bookmark stores the case reference, parties, court, date, and summary snippet.
How do I share an answer?
Click the Share button below any answer to generate a public link. The link shows the question, answer, and all cited sources. Anyone with the link can view it without logging in. This is useful for sending research to a colleague or client. Shared answers do not include any uploaded document content. To delete a shared link, email privacy@lex.mt with the link ID.
Can I use voice to enter my question?
Yes. On the Caselaw Search page, subscribers see a microphone icon in the filter row. Tap it, speak your query, and it will be transcribed automatically using the browser's built-in speech recognition (en-MT locale). Voice input works in Chrome and Edge on desktop and mobile.
Can I view my past queries?

Is this legal advice?
No. LexMT provides legal information and research assistance only. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified Maltese lawyer. Every response carries a disclaimer to this effect. Always verify citations and consult a professional for advice specific to your matter.
How accurate are the answers?
LexMT retrieves actual text from legislation and judgments and cites the source for every claim. That said, AI can make mistakes. It may occasionally misread a passage or miss a more recent amendment. Treat every answer as a starting point for research and always verify the cited source directly.
Can I upload my own documents?
Yes. Subscribers can upload PDFs, Word documents (.docx), images, and plain text files. Uploaded documents are processed entirely in working memory and are never written to persistent storage. Document contents are not saved to query history. Only the typed question is stored.
