Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 3 April 2026

1. About LexMT

LexMT is an AI-powered legal and regulatory research platform operated by an individual resident in Malta. LexMT is accessible at lex.mt and any associated subdomains.

By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, you must not use LexMT.

2. Nature of the Service

LexMT provides access to an AI system that searches Maltese legislation, court judgments, EU legal instruments, and regulatory guidance documents and returns information in response to queries.

  • LexMT provides legal and regulatory information only. Not legal, tax, compliance, or professional advice of any kind.
  • Responses are generated by an AI system and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.
  • You must independently verify all citations and information before relying on them.
  • LexMT does not create a lawyer-client relationship, accountant-client relationship, or any other professional relationship.
  • Regulatory guidance documents — including FIAU Implementing Procedures, MFSA Rulebooks, MTCA guidance, MGA regulatory notices, and IDPC decisions — are indexed for research purposes only. They do not constitute advice on regulatory compliance and must not be relied upon as a substitute for professional advice or direct engagement with the relevant authority.

3. Subscriptions & Billing

3.1 Plans. LexMT is offered on three subscription tiers: Professional (1 user), Firm (5 users), and Enterprise (25 users), on monthly and annual billing cycles as published on the pricing page. Prices are in euros and inclusive of any applicable VAT. A limited free trial of 10 queries is available without payment.

3.2 Billing. Subscriptions are billed in advance. Monthly plans are billed every 30 days. Annual plans are billed as a single upfront payment.

3.3 Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.

3.4 Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice of any price increase. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.

4. Cancellation & Refunds

4.1 Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings or by emailing admin@lex.mt. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access until then.

4.2 Monthly plans. Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable once the billing period has started, except where required by law.

4.3 Annual plans. If you cancel an annual plan within 14 days of purchase and have not made more than 10 queries, you are entitled to a full refund. After 14 days, annual plans are non-refundable except in the circumstances set out in clause 4.4.

4.4 Service unavailability. If LexMT is unavailable for a continuous period exceeding 72 hours in any calendar month due to causes within our control, you are entitled to a pro-rata credit for the affected period applied to your next billing cycle. Credits do not apply to scheduled maintenance, force majeure events, or third-party infrastructure failures (including Hetzner, Cloudflare, or Anthropic outages).

4.5 How to request a refund. Email admin@lex.mt with your account email and reason. We will respond within 5 business days.

5. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to LexMT. The platform may be unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance (notified in advance where possible)
  • Unplanned technical issues
  • Third-party infrastructure outages (Hetzner, Cloudflare, Anthropic)
  • Force majeure events

Scheduled maintenance window. LexMT conducts regular maintenance and corpus upgrades — including updates to our legal database, AI models, and infrastructure — to ensure the quality and accuracy of the platform. We endeavour to schedule all such maintenance between 22:00 and 05:00 Malta time (CET/CEST). During this window the platform may be temporarily unavailable. LexMT accepts no liability for service unavailability occurring within this maintenance window.

We will use reasonable efforts to restore service promptly and to notify users of significant outages via email.

6. AI Models and Query Allowances

LexMT uses large language models provided by Anthropic to generate responses. The model available to you depends on your plan:

  • Claude Sonnet 4.6 — the default model for free trial accounts. A capable model for research and straightforward legal queries.
  • Claude Opus 4.7 — available to paid subscribers and approved beta users. This is Anthropic's most powerful model and is the default for Pro subscribers. Pro users may switch to Claude Sonnet at any time from the dashboard.

6.1 Model usage. Pro subscribers have unlimited access to Claude Opus 4.7 with no daily query limits. Beta access users are subject to a daily Opus usage allowance of 5 queries, which resets at midnight Malta time (CET/CEST). LexMT may adjust these allowances from time to time and will provide reasonable notice of any reduction.

6.2 Model availability. LexMT does not guarantee the continuous availability of any specific AI model. Anthropic may update, modify, or deprecate models at any time. In such circumstances, LexMT will endeavour to provide a comparable replacement model with reasonable notice.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use LexMT to provide legal or professional advice to third parties as if it were your own advice, without disclosure that AI was used
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying corpus or model
  • Share your account credentials with others (the Firm plan includes 5 named users; Enterprise includes 25 named users, each requiring their own account)
  • Use LexMT for any unlawful purpose
  • Submit queries designed to circumvent the AI's safety guardrails

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms without refund.

8. Intellectual Property

The LexMT platform, brand, and software are the property of the operator. The underlying legal corpus consists primarily of public domain government publications, including Malta legislation, court judgments, EU law, and documents published by Malta's regulatory authorities. International legal instruments included in the corpus (including the Hague-Visby Rules, York-Antwerp Rules, and IMO Conventions) are reproduced for research and reference purposes. Query responses are generated outputs that you may use for your own research and work but may not resell or redistribute.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 Research Tool, Not Legal Advice. LexMT is a legal research tool designed to assist qualified professionals in locating and reviewing legal materials. Nothing provided by LexMT, including search results, case summaries, statutory extracts, AI-generated analysis, or any other output, constitutes legal advice, a legal opinion, or a recommendation to take or refrain from any action. You acknowledge that you are a qualified professional and that you must exercise your own independent professional judgement when using the platform. Any reliance on LexMT outputs without independent verification is entirely at your own risk.

9.2 No Warranties. The platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LexMT expressly disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including but not limited to: (a) any warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency, reliability, or correctness of any content, output, or information; (b) any warranty that the legal corpus is complete, up to date, or contains the most recent version of any judgment, legislation, or legal instrument; (c) any warranty of fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability; (d) any warranty of non-infringement; (e) any warranty that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses or other harmful components; and (f) any warranty arising from course of dealing, usage, or trade practice. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from LexMT or through the platform shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.

9.3 Full Exclusion of Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LexMT, its officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, and affiliates exclude all liability for any loss or damage of any nature whatsoever arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of, or inability to use, the platform; (b) any reliance placed on any content, output, or information obtained through the platform; (c) direct loss, indirect loss, consequential loss, incidental loss, special loss, exemplary loss, or punitive damages; (d) loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of business, loss of contracts, loss of opportunity, or loss of anticipated savings; (e) loss or corruption of data; (f) damage to reputation or goodwill; (g) any loss arising from missed deadlines, incorrect legal positions, procedural errors, or reliance on inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information; (h) any loss arising from the platform being unavailable, inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date; (i) any loss arising from the outputs of the AI model, including hallucinated citations, incorrect case summaries, or erroneous statutory interpretation; and (j) any reliance on citations, case summaries, statutory summaries, headnotes, or any other platform output. This exclusion of liability applies whether the claim arises in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, misrepresentation, restitution, or otherwise, and regardless of whether LexMT was advised of, knew of, or should have known of the possibility of such loss or damage.

9.4 Professional Responsibility. You acknowledge and agree that: (a) you are a professional subject to your own professional obligations, codes of conduct, and regulatory duties; (b) your use of LexMT does not discharge, diminish, or transfer any of those duties; (c) you remain solely and exclusively responsible for all legal advice given to your clients, all professional work product, and all decisions made in your professional capacity, whether or not such advice, work product, or decisions incorporate, refer to, or were informed by LexMT outputs; and (d) LexMT is not a substitute for the exercise of professional skill and judgement.

9.5 Indemnity. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless LexMT and its officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, actions, proceedings, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees and disbursements) arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the platform; (b) any reliance by you or any third party on LexMT outputs; (c) any breach of these Terms by you; (d) any claim by a third party that your use of the platform, or any advice, work product, or action based on LexMT outputs, caused loss or damage to that third party; or (e) your violation of any applicable law or regulation.

9.6 Non-Excludable Liability. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for: (a) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (b) death or personal injury caused by negligence; or (c) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Maltese law. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, such liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.

The DPA forms part of these Terms and is entered into automatically upon account creation. Countersigned PDF copies are available on request at admin@lex.mt.
